Famous Models of the 90s in Herve Leger

I still love looking at vintage Herve Leger.  I guess I like Herve Leger because as a kid growing up in Eastern Europe, I loved Elle Model (I think that was the name) magazine that doesn't exist anymore. I had a stack of those and loved turning their pages, fascinated with the famous supermodels of the time, wearing unbelievably beautiful clothes from Azzedine Alaiia and Herve Leger.

So who are supermodels? By the 1990s, the term "supermodel" became increasingly prominent in the media. The 90s were the era of glamorous supermodels: Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Tatjana Patitz, Stephanie Seymour, Claudia Schiffer, Yasmeen Ghauri and Karen Mulder. None of the models after the 90s attained the fame bestowed upon the supermodels of the late 1980s and early 1990s. These models burst off the pages and went beyond the magazines. Many became the faces of cosmetics brands and perfumes. They had their own television programs, they did talk shows, they were cited in gossip columns, they partied at the trendiest nightspots, they landed movie roles, they did physical-fitness videos and their own lines of lingerie, they inspired franchises, they dated or married rock stars, and they earned themselves millions.

"The Big Five" supermodels of the 90s were Naomi  Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer.

Here are the famous supermodels of the 90s wearing Herve Leger.

Eva Herzigova

Eva Herzigová is from Czechoslovakia. In the 90s she dated and married Tico Torres, the drummer from the famous rock band Bon Jovi. (She divorced him later). Eva was my favorite because I found her body to be amazingly beautiful. She looks so sexy in Herve Leger.

Cindy Crawford

Cindy was perhaps the most famous of all the supermodels. Originally from Illinois, she was featured in one Herve Leger campaign and several runway shows. She was also photographed wearing Herve Leger to events and when she was out with her husband at the time, Richard Gere.

My favorite Cindy's picture in Herve Leger is in a black swimming suit.

Karen Mulder

Karen is Dutch and has this classy look about her. I just can't imagine her wearing jeans. Of course she did appear in some casual stuff but I think "barbie look", 90s statement look, classy pieces and Herve Leger looked so much better on her.

Tyra Banks

Tyra was younger that the other famous models of the 90s (she was born in 1973). Born in Inglewood (part of Los Angeles), California, she began her career as a model at the age of 15, and was the first woman of African American descent to be featured on the covers of GQ and the Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Nadja Auermann

Nadja is German  and she once held the record for being the model with the longest legs in the world in the Guiness Book of Records.

Helena Christensen

She is a model from Denmark. She dated, and lived with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence (very famous rock band at that time) on and off in France and Denmark for a period of five years in the early 1990s.

Christy Turlington

Christy is an American model from California. She has been modeling even in recent years (she is 49 now). She is into yoga and she has been married to actor, director, and writer Edward Burns for a long time now.

Naomi Campbell

Naomi is a model from England and she spent the 90s dating U2 bassist Adam Clayton and Formula One racing head Flavio Briatore.

Stephanie Seymour

She is a model from San Diego, California. Stephanie was beautiful and her love life in the 80s and 90s was kind of interesting. At 16 she dated married 42 year old John Casablancas, the head of Elite Model Management. By mid-1991 she had become involved with Axl Rose, the lead singer of Guns N'Roses. She appeared in three music videos by Guns N' Roses. Shortly after her break up with Rose, Seymour began dating billionaire Peter Brant, who was married and the father of five children. She later married him and had children with him.

Linda Evangelista

Evangelista was born in 1965 to Italian parents who had emigrated to Canada. Described as the "chameleon" of the fashion industry, and as a key figure among the five supermodels, Evangelista was one of the most famous women in the world during the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s. Evangelista is primarily known for being the longtime muse of photographer Steven Meisel, as well as for coining the phrase "We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day." In the 90s she was married to Gérald Marie, who was the head of the Elite modeling agency's Paris office and also dated actor Kyle MacLachlan.

Tatjana Patitz

She is a German model. She was a member of "original supermodels" or "Big 5" and was later replaced by Claudia Shiffer. In 1989, Patitz went to live on a ranch in Malibu, California, where in 2009 she was reported to have four horses, four dogs and two cats, commenting "I needed nature around me."

Claudia Schiffer

She is a German supermodel. She rose to fame in the early 1990s as one of the world's most successful models. In her early career, she was compared to Brigitte Bardot.

She has appeared on more than one thousand magazine covers and holds the record for the model with the most magazine covers, listed in the Guiness Book of World Records.

Claudia spent the 90s dating famous magician David Copperfield.

I didn't find any pictures of Claudia modeling for Herve Leger in the 90s and I am not sure she did it, but I did find a picture of Claudia wearing Herve Leger by Max Azria.

Elle Macpherson

She is an Australian model. In the 1980s, together with Linda, Christy, Tatjana, Naomi, Pavlina and Cindy, Macpherson became part of the new generation of supermodels. In 1989 she was given the nickname Elle "The Body" Macpherson by Time magazine after she appeared on their cover. She went on to use the name in a number of business ventures. Macpherson dated Billy Joel during the early 1980s, prior to his marriage to Christie Brinkley. Later she married French photographer Gilles Bensimon and after the divorce dated a French businessman and eventually married billionaire Jeffrey Soffer.

Like Claudia Schiffer, Elle wasn't modeling for Herve Leger in the 90s but she wore a lot of different Herve Leger by Max Azria.

Carla Bruni

Carla was born rich. She is heiress to the fortune created by the Italian tire manufacturing company CEAT (later sold to Pirelli). The family moved to France in 1975, purportedly to escape the threat of kidnapping by the Red Brigades, a Communist terrorist  group active in Italy in the 1970s and 1980s. Bruni grew up in France from the age of 7, and attended a boarding school in Switzerland. She went to Paris to study art and architecture, but left school at 19 to become a model. In 1997, Bruni quit the world of fashion to devote herself to music and in 2008 she married the French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Yasmin Le Bon

Yasmin Le Bon was from Oxford, England and was already married in the 90s to Simon Le Bon, the lead singer of the famous band Duran Duran.

Iman

Iman is not necessarily a model associated with the 90s. She was already famous in the late 70s. But in the 90s she was perhaps even more famous because of her social life that was covered by the media and also because she also was pursuing other business ventures in addition to modeling. Iman married famous musician David Bowie in 1992 wearing an Herve Leger dress. In 1994 she started her own cosmetics firm, focusing on difficult-to-find shades for women.
